Botas Ponseti: el gran reto de cada familia
And here we are…
The longest and most emotional phase of the Ponseti treatment—
The Ponseti boots, or as many parents call them, “the boots with the bar.”
If you’ve made it this far, after the casts and tenotomy, you’re probably wondering:
"How long does my baby have to wear this? Will it bother them? Will they be able to move?"
Let me share our real experience, just as it is.
What Are Ponseti Boots?
These are special orthopedic boots, connected by a metal bar, designed to keep the foot correction in place and prevent relapse.
How Long Do They Have to Wear Them?
At first, your baby will need to wear them 23 hours a day, only taking them off for bath time or short breaks.
Little by little, they’ll move on to wearing them only while sleeping, usually until age 4 or 5.
I know…
"4 or 5 years? That’s forever!"
That’s exactly what I thought too.
But believe me—you’ll get through it.
We are currently in this phase with our daughter Halia, who is 9 months old.
Because of her atypical clubfoot, the Ponseti Method didn’t work as expected for her, but we are still trying everything we can, including these boots.
I promise to share more details soon on our blog, because I know many families are walking this same complicated path.
What We’ve Learned So Far
Create routines, like putting them on at the same time every day.
Let them play on the floor, so they learn to move with the bar.
Talk to them about it, even if they’re tiny.
Let them hear your voice telling them how proud you are of their courage. And normalize it at home, without shame or fear—
these boots are their superpower.
Yes, the boots are a challenge.
But every night you put them on, you’re helping your baby win this battle, one step at a time.
